Kathleen M. Schaefer Kathleen Schaefer has 26 years of experience with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). She has handled thousands of sentencing hearings and numerous parole board interviews and public hearings. She has extensive courtroom experience including Court Liaison to the Chief Judge in the court formerly known as the Detroit Recorder's Court.

She was the manager of a parole Boot Camp Aftercare and Probation Violation Detention Facility in Detroit and manager of Circuit Court probation and Parole Services in Wayne and Macomb counties including:

  • sex offender units
  • parole and probation boot camp supervision units
  • electronic monitoring and Public Act 511 units
  • community corrections programs

Kathleen began providing assistance and consultation in sentencing, parole and correctional matters involving the MDOC in 2002.

Nicole George, M.S.W.

Nicole George Nicole George has a Master's Degree in Social Work, specializing in Interpersonal Practice and Mental Health, from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

Nicole has studied and worked, domestically and internationally, with children and youth suffering from mental health issues, sexual misconduct and abuse and substance abuse. Her research on borderline personality disorder was presented at the meeting of the Association for Psychological Science, San Francisco, CA.

Nicole is committed to issues concerning privilege, oppression, diversity and social justice. She is a specialist on mental health cases and cases involving juveniles sentenced as adults.

Martin J. Thomas, B.A.

Martin J. Thomas As a former specialist for W.J. Maxey Boys Training School and administrator for Spectrum Services, Martin has over 35 years of experience working with offenders, families and their communities.

He is knowledgeable of resources in the private and public domains of juvenile and community corrections, including services to assist clients with counseling and treatment for sex offenders and clients suffering from substance abuse issues.
