The Michigan Parole & Commutation Board
The board is the sole paroling authority for felony offenders committed to the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). The board also acts in an advisory capacity to the governor for all executive clemency matters.
Established within the MDOC, this body is composed of 15 members appointed by the governor.
The board was created through an executive order in February of 2009 to replace a 10-member body whose members were appointed by the MDOC director.
The chairperson and members, appointed in April and November 2009, are:
Barbara S. Sampson (chairperson), former program manager for the Wayne County Department of Children and Family Services, Adult Community Corrections program, was first appointed to the Parole Board in November 2003. She was named chairperson in February 2007 and reappointed chairperson by the governor. Her term will expire in November 2014.
James Atterberry is pastor and district superintendent of Brotherhood Church of God in Christ in Benton Harbor. He was first appointed to the parole board in November 2003. His term expires November 2014.
Miguel A. Berrios, a MDOC area manager for eight west Michigan counties, was formerly a police officer and a federal probation officer. He was first appointed to the parole board in October 2000. His term expires in November 2011.
Stephen H. DeBoer served as the former Barry County Sheriff. Before this, he was a first lieutenant in command at a Michigan State Police Post. He was first appointed to the board in January 2005. His term expires November 2012.
Artina Tinsely Hardman formerly served in the Michigan House of Representatives representing the Third House District. She was chairwoman of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus. She was first appointed to the board in January 2007. Her term expires in November 2012.
Laurin’ Thomas was an attorney for UAW-GM Legal Services and previously practiced law in various jurisdictions. She was first appointed to the parole board in January 2007. Her term expires in November 2014.
Dr. Anthony King, a former associate professor of social work at Wayne State University, was first selected in October of 2008 and reappointed to a term expiring November 2012.
David Kleinhardt, manager in the Office of the Parole Board, was selected to a term expiring in November 2011.
Charles Brown, former sheriff of Saginaw County, was first selected in January 2009. His term expires November 2011.
Paul Condino, former legislator, was first selected in January 2009. His term expires November 2014.
Jodi DeAngelo, assistant deputy warden at Scott Correctional Facility, was appointed to a term expiring November 2011.
John Sullivan , owner and attorney in private practice, had his initial appointed term expiring November 2009, extended. His term expires November 2013.
Sonia Amos Warchock of Jackson, parole violation specialist with the MIchigan Department of Corrections, had her initial appointed term expiring November 30th, 2009 extended. Her term expires November 2013.
Ted Hammon (replacing Dave Fountain), a former Genesee County commissioner and Burton city councilman is a retired phone techniciian and formally held a seat in the state House of Representatives, was appointed to a term expiring November 2013.
Robert S. Aguirre (replacing Lisa Gettys), an Otisville resident and trainer advisor for Pacific Architects & Engineers Group. He formerly worked for the Flint Police and Genesee County Sheriff's departments, was appointed to a term expiring November 2013.

Lisa Gettys, manager of the Office of Probation and Parole Services with the MDOC, term EXPIRED November 2009.
